Our Hospital Adventure

This is old news for most people, but I figured I should blog about our fun hospital adventure on Sunday night.

We were having a fabulous Sunday. Everyone was getting along, I felt great, church went well, and we just sat down to eat a yummy roast beef dinner. (My favorite!) While we were eating, I noticed I was having a lot of braxton hicks contractions. I get them quite often so I didn't think much of it. After dinner, they still kept coming. Derek was so sweet and cleaned up all of the dinner mess so I could go lay down in hopes that the contractions would go away. It didn't work. They were only getting worse and more frequent. I started timing them and they were consistently 2-3 minutes apart. They still didn't actually hurt, so I didn't know what to do. I finally called the hospital and a nurse told me I better come in. If I was in the early stages of labor they needed to give me medicine to stop the contractions before I went into full-blown labor. So we packed up in the car, dropped Cooper off at my parents, and set off for the hospital. I was still in great spirits because I figured they would get better by the time we got to Provo and we could turn around and come home. We were not so lucky. They were still 2 minutes apart and getting more intense.

We checked into the hospital and the fun began! They hooked me up to several monitors. It took almost an hour to find the baby's heartbeat. I would have been concerned, but I had just felt the baby kick so I knew he was OK. They ran a test that can tell you if you are going to have the baby within 2 weeks and it came back negative. Thank goodness! I want this baby to come early, but not THIS early! They also did another test that came back positive for a bladder infection which can cause contractions. At this point they had also hooked me up to an IV to get me hydrated. So by the end of our 3 1/2 hours there, they determined the contractions were a combination of my bladder infection and being dehydrated. By the time we left, they were far less frequent, about 7 minutes apart.

They sent me home with a prescription for antibiotics and instructions to drink more water. They also said to take it easy and if they start up again to put myself on bedrest and try to get them to stop on my own.

I had a doctors appointment today and he told me I did the right thing by going in. (He was out of town so he didn't have a clue what even happened) He told me that I shouldn't walk in the mornings anymore, which make me sad, but I know it will make me feel better to take it easy.

So that was our adventure. Overall it was a good experience. Some of it wasn't so fun, but it was nice to hear the baby's heartbeat for a couple of hours as well as get another ultrasound. It was a great reminder of what it will be like in a few weeks when I actually go into labor. The nurses were great. Mine was very new and struggled quite a bit, but she was very sweet and helped me calm down over the situation. Derek was also wonderful! He just hung out with me and helped with whatever he could. He was able to watch the Yankee game without Cooper bugging him, so maybe it worked out even better then being at home. He just might not think it was so great when the hospital bill comes.

Ok, I never write this much. Thank you to everyone who called and was concerned. I have such wonderful friends and family!

The End : )

Building Blocks

On Sunday morning, Cooper was looking at a copy of The Friend magazine. He saw the kids building a temple out of blocks on the cover. He recruited the help of Derek and together they made their own version of a temple. He was so proud and wanted me to take his picture.

Finally An Update...

Well, it has been a LONG time since I have updated this blog.
(Well, except to complain about my bad day yesterday. I'm learning the whole idea of "Choosing to not be offended" is MUCH harder to actually do than it sounds).
***
But Anyway....
I figured I would try to catch up. I'm accepting the reality that I am a terrible blogger and that it just isn't my favorite thing to do. So I am sorry there are not any exciting or funny stories, but at least you will see a little of what we have been up to the past few months.
***
Only 8 more weeks to go until we have our new baby! Time is flying by!! It will be fun to have a new baby in our home. We are a little nervous because it has been so long since we had Cooper. It will be VERY nice to finally feel normal again! This pregnancy has been MUCH harder on my body than Cooper was. Guess I am getting old.
We hope everyone is having a wonderful Fall!

Weekend Getaway

Because we are down to only 6-8 weeks left before we have our baby, we decided to take a little family vacation to Logan. We were only there for 2 days but had a lot of fun together. Derek is a big Utah State fan so we went to their football game. Unfortunately, they lost. It is always fun to be with my boys away from housework, laundry, and dishes. Hopefully we can get away together again soon!

Dinosaur Museum

Here are some pictures from our day (well it was more like our HOUR) at the Thanksgiving Point Dinosaur Museum. We went on $2 Tuesday's and learned that it is probably best to pay full price and go when it isn't insanely busy.

Party Time!

COOPER IS 4!

Cooper with the Nelson Cousins

When I told Cooper that we didn't have any goody-bags for his party, he quickly got out his leftover parade candy and started splitting it up to put in bags. He is such a funny kid!

This was my first attempt at making a birthday cake. (I couldn't justify paying $20 for an ugly and yucky store made one) so at the last minute I made this for him. He seemed to like it and I guess that is all that matters.

Bad Day...

So I need to vent.....

It hasn't been a good day.

I am not really sure where my day took such a bad turn, or what exactly made my day so stinky, but I know I don't like how I am feeling right now. I'm guessing my crazy, out of control hormones have something to do with it, but it has been a very long time since I have felt sad about something that is really really insignificant to the rest of the world.

Everyone has bad days, right?

So here is to today being OVER and hopefully tomorrow will be better!

Ok, now I feel a little better.

Another Youtube Clip

Here is another good youtube video... this one is even educational. It is only 3 minutes long, but it is very informative about the health care debate. Everyone should watch it!

Congressman Chaffetz' Town Hall Clip

If you don't have time to watch the entire clip (it is only a few minutes long) skip to the last minute or so. It was a fantastic town hall meeting and this was my favorite moment of the night.
