Just For Fun!

Silly Kid!

A couple of days ago, I thought Cooper was waking up from his nap. I heard a weird noise so I went up to check on him in his room. I couldn't find him. When I went back in the kitchen this is what I found. ..
I have NO clue what made him want to come downstairs and go back to sleep on the kitchen floor, but I guess it worked for him.
Silly kid!

Halloween 2008

HALLOWEEN!!!!

Cooper wasn't exactly thrilled to be wearing his costume.
(Thanks Justin and Angela for letting us borrow it!)

Once he realized that wearing his costume meant getting lots of candy, he was a VERY happy little puppy dog.

Redistribution of Wealth

Katie sent this to me today and I thought it was worth posting...

Redistribution Plan may take a while
Yesterday on my way to lunch at Doe's, I passed one of the homeless guys in that area, with a sign that read 'Vote Obama, I need the money.' Once in Doe's my waiter had on a 'Obama 08' tee shirt. When the bill came, I decided not to tip the waiter and explained to him while he had given me exceptional service, that his tee shirt made me feel he obviously believes in Senator Obama's plan to redistribute the wealth. I told him I was going to redistribute his tip to someone that I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside.
He stood there in disbelief and angrily stormed away. I went outside, gave the homeless guy $3 and told him to thank the waiter inside, as I had decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy looked at me in disbelief but seemed grateful.
As I got in my truck, I realized this rather unscientific redistribution experiment had left the homeless guy quite happy for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was furious that I gave away the money he did earn. I guess this redistribution of wealth is going to take a while to catch on, with those doing the work.

Curious little 3 year olds are so fun! Lucky for Coop, I was in a good mood when I saw this!

October Update

It has been a little while since I have written on here, so I thought I would give you a quick update on what we have been doing.

We are still working on our kitchen projects. We have our new stove and microwave hooked up (kudo's to Derek for figuring it out all by himself!) and we ordered new granite counter tops this weekend. We never had intentions of getting granite, but it ended up not being much more than the laminate we wanted. They measured for it today and hopefully it will be installed in the next 10 days. Yippee! I'll post pictures when we are finally finished. It is amazing that once you start one project (painting our cabinets) it turns into another and another. Merry Christmas to us I guess. :)

Derek is trying to fit in a few last minute trips to the golf course before the snow comes. He is loving the nice weather we have had lately. Cooper really loves having Derek home on Friday's. It has been good for them to spend more time together. The biggest problem is when Monday rolls around, Cooper hates that Derek has to go back to work.

Elections are almost here! Everyone better get out and vote this year. We voted on Friday and it felt good to vote for Jason. The campaign is calming down and now we are working on organizing honk and waves and making phone calls. I am going to enjoy a break but I am sure going to miss all the fun things that come along with the campaign. The Republican Party is hosting a party at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake on election night. We are excited to go and are planning on staying up in Salt Lake for the night. It will be a fun little get-away for Derek and I. Plus, Cooper will have more fun with Grandpa Nelson than he ever has with us.

Young Women's is still going well. My good friend Jenn, was just stolen by the Relief Society to be their new secretary so we are really sad to lose her. She will be a great secretary for them. Young Women "Evening In Excellence" is coming in 2 weeks so as soon as the election is over, my focus has to turn to getting ready for that. We have most of it planned, but it is going to take a lot of work to pull it all together. Thank goodness there are so many great YW leaders in our ward that are helping out!

I guess that is it for now-- that was a lot of nothing. Sorry if I put you all to sleep!

My Sweet Cooper

Cooper and Derek just came back from walking to the mailbox. When they walked up to me in the garage, Cooper held out his hands and said "I got you a present mommy!" He was so excited to give me some leaves and a rock. This is my first gift from Cooper that he came up with all on his own. He can be such a stinker sometimes, but moments like this are priceless!

Painting, Painting and More Painting

When we purchased our home back in 2003 we knew that we didn't love our kitchen cabinets. We have always said that "someday" we would get around to either replacing them (maybe if we won the lottery...) or painting them. We complained about the horrible color wood, fake plastic sides, and gross handles (completely my fault... who knew you had to scrub cabinet handles!)

Well this weekend we had to go to Sherwin Williams to get some glaze for a different project. (Our fantastic neighbor is going to build us hand-rails for our stairs. I ripped ours off about 2 years ago with the intentions of replacing them with nicer ones. Yeah-- 2 years later it is finally getting done because we have such a great neighbor!) Anyway while we were there we noticed they were having a paint sale. There wasn't anyone else in the store, the salesman was super helpful, and we didn't have anything to do over the weekend so Derek and I looked and each other and decided we should just go for it and paint the cabinets. We were so foolish to think for one second this would be an easy, one day, project. Somehow we lived through it and have newly painted cabinets to show for it.

We are planning on getting a new counter top and new appliances (ours only decide to work sometimes). I'll post before and after pictures of the entire kitchen as soon as we get it all done. But for now-- MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! For anyone thinking about taking on a similar project... GOOD LUCK! It is a TON of work, but I really love the end result.

WHAT A MESS!!

This is a great project to take on if you want to organize your cupboards. By the time we were done I had gone through every shelf and every drawer. I've never been so organized!

STILL A MESS! But at least there is primer!

I just want to remind everyone that the deadline to register to vote by mail is only 4 days away. It is so important that you all vote this year. Even if you don't agree with my political views, I strongly encourage you to get involved and make sure your voice is heard this election. Too many people leave it up to "everyone else" and then complain about what a mess we are in. Please visit http://elections.utah.gov/VoterRegistrationForm.pdf to print off a registration form. Make sure you mail it in by October 6th! After Monday you will have to go in person to the County Clerks office to register. After you are registered, don't forget to Vote on November 4th!
